Ingredients

1 oz maple simple syrup
2 oz bourbon
1 dash Angostura bitters
Mini frozen waffles
Optional: maple sugar

Make maple simple syrup by combining equal parts maple syrup and water in a small pot. Heat over low heat and stir until maple syrup is just dissolved. Let cool.

Prepare your waffles in the toaster.

Stir maple simple syrup and bitters together in the bottom of a glass. Add bourbon. Add one large ice cube (or a few smaller ones) and stir until just chilled, about 30 seconds.

Garnish with a mini waffle. Eat the leftover waffles.

Optional: before you mix the drink, go full Knope and rim the glass with maple sugar.

Houston Rockets center Nene had a strange snafu on his new contract that ended up costing him $4 million.

Nene, who is 34 years old, reportedly agreed to re-sign with the Rockets on a four-year, $15 million deal this summer.

However, because of a little-known rule in the NBA’s CBA called the “over-38 rule”, Nene had to restructure the agreement and ended up re-signing on a three-year, $11 million deal.

The “over-38 rule” doesn’t allow players to sign deals longer than three years if they would be getting paid beyond their 38th birthday. Because Nene is 34, the four-year deal would have taken him past his 38th birthday.

Vodou began when African slaves brought their native traditions with them as they were forcefully transported to the new world. However, they were generally forbidden from practicing their religion. To get around these restrictions, the slaves started to equate their gods with Catholic saints. They also performed their rituals using the items and imagery of the Catholic Church.

If a Vodou practitioner considers himself Christian, he generally professes to be a Catholic Christian. Many Vodou practitioners also consider themselves Catholics. Some see the saints and spirits to be one and the same. Others still hold that the Catholic accouterments are primarily for appearance.

Vodou is a monotheistic religion. Followers of Vodou — known as Vodouisants — believe in a single, supreme godhead that can be equated with the Catholic God. This deity is known as Bondye, “the good god”.
