Georgia O’Keeffe 1887

In the 1950s, O’Keeffe began to travel internationally. She created paintings that evoked a sense of the spectacular places she visited, including the mountain peaks of Peru and Japan’s Mount Fuji. At the age of seventy-three she embarked on a new series focused on the clouds in the sky and the rivers below.

#1 in World’s Best Places to Visit

Every day, the magnetic City of Light draws visitors who travel from around the globe to see iconic attractions like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame in real life. But what travelers really fall in love with are the city’s quaint cafes, vibrant markets, trendy shopping districts and unmistakable je ne sais quoi charm.

*Make plans today to travel internationally. Even if you’re 73, get out and see the world.

“My religion is the Earth, man. I believe in trees,” Shailene told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2014. It is safe to assume that she isn’t super religious and that she is more spiritual.

Care . Action . Change

Real Change happens when we question and seek truth and care so much to take action that yields the change we want to see. Activism is your everyday habits. The Shailene Woodley Foundation strives to empower, encourage and train people of all ages, backgrounds to choose activism as a lifestyle.

All It Takes was founded in 2010 by Lori and Shailene as a global call to action. We believe that each of us has a responsibility to humanity and our planet to be a part of sustainable positive change and that happiness comes from participating in ways we are individually passionate about.

*Have a religion. The Earth as a religion is fine. It’s OK to be more spiritual than religious. Activism as a lifestyle is a noble endeavor and happiness comes from participating in ways that you are passionate about.

Identify your spending style. Tackle your spending triggers.

*Take the above quiz from Huffington Post to identify your spending style.

Understand Your Spending Triggers

In many cases, knowing how to stop spending money has to do with identifying the emotional and psychological triggers that cause us to spend. If you remove those triggers, you’ll remove the temptation and opportunity to overspend. So the next time you head out the door, keep these in mind:

Time of Day

Do you find that you have more energy during certain periods of the day? If so, shop during times when you have more energy and feel less stressed. You’ll make wiser spending choices and think more rationally when you’re relaxed and less pressured.

Are there certain environments that make you want to spend, or make you feel obligated to spend just because you’re there? Craft fairs, shopping malls, home shows, and even when you’re on holidays are all prime examples of times when you’re more likely to spend impulsively. So, take away the temptation by either steering clear of such environments, or only taking a few dollars with you.

What’s important is that you identify the moods that affect your spending behaviour, and to find ways to avoid shopping during moods that will cause you to impulse buy.

Peer Pressure

Don’t be scared to let your friends know that you’re trying to spend less; perhaps they’ll help you on your journey, and some may even follow suite! What’s important is that you surround yourself with friends who will support you as you work toward your financial goals.

If you’re accustomed to a certain lifestyle, it could be difficult to give up when you suddenly encounter a financial hardship. But, if your lifestyle ends up becoming bigger than your budget and you don’t know how to stop overspending your budget, you could end up in worse shape.

*Now that you know your spending style, you can start to eliminate your spending triggers.

“I mean, the truth is that at any time in this business you could fall off the edge of the world,” he said.

But then, on the NBC series “Law & Order,” he stumbled on the rarest thing in his business: A steady job

Critics Consensus: Artfully composed, powerfully acted, and fueled by a powerful blend of anger and empathy, The Killing Fields is a career-defining triumph for director Roland Joffé and a masterpiece of American cinema.

As he put it years later in an interview with People he said, “to have a Ph.D. at 24 and go into practice and have children and do the same thing over and over again–it would drive me crazy.”

He wasn’t into skincare. “I paid no attention to it before. I used anything and nothing.” Now he regards a regimen as part of his routine. “It’s kinda like working out. You do it not just because it helps your body, but it also makes you feel clarity, grounded,” he said. “You’re on this earth and have to deal with gravity.”

Your Daytime Regimen

The morning routine is all about protection from the sun, pollution and the elements, according to Dr. Rogers, so leave your peel pads and treatment products, like retinol, for night.

Your Nighttime Regimen

As your skin naturally repairs itself at night, your nighttime routine should be all about treatment and giving your skin what it needs, says Dr. Rogers. “If your skin is looking dull, exfoliate. If it is irritated, hydrate and protect.” Here’s the best order of skin care products to make sure you get the most out of them:

Garry: Because you and your sister and brother don’t understand the value of a dollar.

The original plot of Pretty Woman (directed by Gerry Marshall) was a little more disturbing, it was called 3,000 – the amount Vivian earned for the week she spends with her client – and that part of Edward’s deal with her is that she stay off the cocaine she’s addicted to for the week they’re together.

Did the Spartans really discard their unfit offspring?

Yes. In the movie, we see a government official holding King Leonidas’ (Gerard Butler) newborn son above a cliff. The official is inspecting the newborn to decide if it should be discarded. Greek historian Plutarch (46 A.D. – 127 A.D.) spoke of the Spartan practice of eugenics in his writings:

“If after examination the baby proved well-built and sturdy they [the state] instructed the father to bring it up, and assigned it one of the 9,000 lots of land. But if it was puny and deformed, they dispatched it to what was called ‘the place of rejection’, a precipitous spot by Mount Taygetus, considering it better both for itself and the state that the child should die if right from its birth it was poorly endowed for health or strength.”

“What makes my thinker think is that he thinks not only with his brain, with his knitted brow, his distended nostrils and compressed lips,” Rodin noted, “but with every muscle of his arms, back, and legs, with his clenched fist and gripping toes.” The statue no longer communicated the attitude of a poet presiding over a collection of literary fancies; instead, it captured an introspective moment of any human being – a poet, a leader, a scholar, an everyday working man, or even the artist himself.

Introspection and reflection are all about getting to know yourself at the core, uncovering your values and then deciding for yourself what the best action to take is. You take the power away from the way you’ve been conditioned, away from the systems that try to hold you in place and bring your focus of control back to where it belongs, within you.

*Have an introspective moment today where you think with not just your brain but with every muscle, a clenched fist, and gripping toes. Get to know yourself at the core. Be a thinker.

She was her family’s ‘least likely to succeed’

But Grace, the middle daughter, was different. She was the only Kelly who couldn’t command a room, a shy, glasses-wearing girl who avoided competitive sports. The only thing Grace liked was the stage. Up there, she had a defined role besides being the clan’s least likely to succeed, a label that stuck even after her singular 18-month Hollywood triumph during which she made nine films, won an Oscar, married a prince, and retired. When a reporter asked Jack Kelly if he was proud, he suggested they write about her older sister Peggy instead, shrugging, “Anything that Grace could do, Peggy could always do better.” Grace Kelly was the family failure.

In terms of his pregame meal, Westbrook actually likes to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He believes the peanut butter is just what my body needs in terms of protein, and the carbs from the jelly give him the energy needed to play most of the game.

Growing up, food writer Priya Krishna ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at every school lunch for eleven years, and in that time she (and her mother) refined the recipe to its ideal, such an ideal that she still eats them. Krishna has five tips for the perfect PB&J:

  • Spread the condiments evenly over the entire surface of the bread.
  • Use preserves, which have chunks of fruit, instead of jam or jelly.
  • Stick to strawberry and raspberry, not blueberry or anything funky.
  • Cut the sandwich diagonally.
  • Wrap it in foil, not plastic wrap, so it’s less sticky.
