GRILL MEAT AND DRINK SCOTCH DAY

MIND

Derek Jeter 1974

“I attribute much of my success in New York to my ability to understand and avoid unnecessary distractions.”

*Reflect on your ability to understand and avoid unnecessary distractions

BODY

Ariana Grande 1993 – chase your dog

She frequently hikes to the Hollywood sign, enjoys chasing after her pup and practices daily meditation.

*Value a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Hike, chase your dog, and meditate today. Don’t have a dog? – look to adopt one right now in honor of the next birthday.

SOUL

Michael Vick 1980

“My mom told me before I went in Psalm 23 will get you through,” “When I went to Psalm 23, [God] gave me strength.”

“I found myself in prison for 23 months and it was a deep reevaluation process of my life and my perseverance moving forward,”

“Every night that I went to sleep in prison for 544 days I read this prayer and every time that I read it, it took on a different meaning,”

*Read Psalm 23 and reflect on how God gives you strength

MONEY

Jennette McCurdy 1992

Jennette McCurdy‘s beef with Nickelodeon is strictly about the almighty dollar … and how she makes less than her “Sam & Cat” co-star Ariana Grande

McCurdy was a no-show at the Kids’ Choice Awards “I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing.” McCurdy is pissed that Grande makes WAY MORE money than her.

*How can you stick up for what is right and what is fair with your paycheck?

CROSSOVER: ENTERTAINMENT – Watch an episode of Sam and Cat starring our 2 birthday girls.

BONUS: Dakota Meyer 1988 – “It doesn’t matter how big of a company you have: I always tell people that you are one job away from being broke. And if you don’t live that way, you’ll be broke.”

ENTERTAINMENT

Chris O’Donnell 1970 – watch Scent of a Woman

*Watch O’Donnell almost win a Golden Globe alongside Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. Hooaww.

FOOD

Nick Offerman 1970 – grilled meat

“Since mankind first set meat atop fire, it has been perfect. I am not one for extreme displays of emotion, but I truly enjoy grilling.”

*Grill meat and enjoy. Maybe watch some Parks and Rec too. Wash it down with Ron Swanson’s favorite Lagavulin Scotch Whisky.

Ron Swanson quotes:

“Never been hungover. After I’ve had too much whiskey, I cook myself a large flank steak, pan-fried in salted butter. I eat that, put on a pair of wet socks and go to sleep.”

“That’s Swanson family mash liquor made from the finest corn ever grown on American soil. It’s only legal use is to strip varnish off of speedboats.”

“All my life I’ve avoided Europe, and it’s multitudes of terribleness, but it turns out, much to my surprise, there is actually one place in Europe that is worth seeing. These tiny islands off the coast of Scotland, where God’s chosen elixirs are distilled, barreled, and prepared for consumption. This is worth the trip.”

SNUB – Aubrey Plaza 1984 – yes, April Ludgate and Ron Swanson share a birthday.

I was born in Northwestern Pennsylvania and lived in a trailer park. I was raised by very conservative and religious (Wesleyan Methodist) parents. By some miracle I graduated college and moved to Florida. I have been a public school teacher since 1995. I have 7 years until I can retire. I was married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. I remarried in 2017 to Kate - 21 years my junior. Some of my life experiences as a 46-year-old, white American male, will come through in my writing, but the majority of this daily journey will be dedicated to improving myself, and hopefully you as well.
