Reagan’s first big role as an actor was playing football star George Gipp in the 1940 film classic, Knute Rockne – All-American.

“Win one for the Gipper,” Reagan says in the film.

The role catapulted the young Ronald Reagan to fame, and the nickname “the Gipper” stuck with him forever after.
