Abner Doubleday 1819

Baseball brings out our best at throwing, catching, running, sliding, leaping, batting, playing as a team, and displaying our skills at offense and defense. All of which requires extreme concentration every step of the way. Baseball does exactly what Doubleday intended it to—keep us on our toes while striving to do our best. Even if we’re in bleacher seats, we are aroused, paying attention, and on our toes nonetheless.

*Stay on your toes today. Watch some baseball. Pay attention to the game.

Ariana Grande’s Mind Is Blown When Mark Hamill Praises Her On Twitter

“I can’t breathe,” the 25-year-old singer said after being complimented by Luke Skywalker himself.

Being someone who values a well-rounded healthy lifestyle, she frequently hikes to the Hollywood sign, enjoys chasing after her little pup and practices daily meditation.

*Value a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Chase your dog and meditate today. Don’t have a dog? – look to adopt one right now.

Over the course of a six-hour firefight, without regard for his own personal safety, Sgt. Meyer repeatedly braved enemy fire in eastern Afghanistan to find and save fellow members of his embedded training team.

*After reading this about Dakota Meyer, do you think that you can risk helping someone out today?

Derek Jeter 1974

Think and act like a champion. Don’t worry about anyone else’s money or life decisions—stay focused on your game and your goals.

Retired baseball legend Derek Jeter has listed his castle-style mansion in Greenwood Lake, N.Y., for sale for $14.75 million. The four-acre property, about 50 miles north of New York City, consists of two parcels, one of which had the house where Jeter’s grandfather was raised.

*Don’t worry about other people’s money. Stay focused on your money goals today – and maybe one day you will own a castle style mansion.

Chris O’Donnell 1970 – watch Scent of a Woman

“Marry the right person,” says O’Donnell of his marriage advice. “I was very lucky. We work at it all the time and have good communication.

“Somebody told us before we got married, ‘Don’t go to bed angry with each other,’ it’s a little thing but it means a lot. If something is bothering you talk it out.”

I see two general circumstances in which one might ethically lie to an authority figure.

  1. You think the offense is small and victimless.
  2. You think the justice system is unjust.

*Watch Chris O’Donnell almost win a Golden Globe alongside Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. Hoooaaww.

Nick Offerman 1970 – grilled meat

I have been asked to update this internet website with any new thoughts I may have about grilling. I have no new thoughts because grilling is timeless and how I feel about it has never changed. Sometimes it takes a long period of trying before you succeed at something and sometimes you get a touchdown on the first play. We got that touchdown. Since mankind first set meat atop fire, it has been perfect. I am not one for extreme displays of emotion, but I truly enjoy grilling.

*Grill meat and enjoy. Maybe watch some Parks and Rec too.Wash it down with Ron Swanson’s favorite Lagavulin Scotch Whisky.

Here are just a few of his thoughts on alcohol – a love that rivals bacon and woodworking for the mustached hero.

“Never been hungover. After I’ve had too much whiskey, I cook myself a large flank steak, pan-fried in salted butter. I eat that, put on a pair of wet socks and go to sleep.”

“There is no wrong way to consume alcohol.”

“That’s Swanson family mash liquor made from the finest corn ever grown on American soil. It’s only legal use is to strip varnish off of speedboats.”

“All my life I’ve avoided Europe, and it’s multitudes of terribleness, but it turns out, much to my surprise, there is actually one place in Europe that is worth seeing. These tiny islands off the coast of Scotland, where God’s chosen elixirs are distilled, barrelled, and prepared for consumption. This is worth the trip.”

“Nectar of the Gods.” (on his beloved Lagavulin Scotch Whisky)

“I’m more of a whiskey man.”

Ann: “How many drinks of alcohol do you consume a week?
Ron: “One”
Ann: “That’s it? One drink?
Ron: “One shelf.”

“Clear alcohols are for rich women on diets.”

“There will be alcohol there, so I will go as well.”

God bless you, Swanson. You beautiful, beautiful man.

I was born in Northwestern Pennsylvania and lived in a trailer park. I was raised by very conservative and religious (Wesleyan Methodist) parents. By some miracle I graduated college and moved to Florida. I have been a public school teacher since 1995. I have 7 years until I can retire. I was married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. I remarried in 2017 to Kate - 21 years my junior. Some of my life experiences as a 46-year-old, white American male, will come through in my writing, but the majority of this daily journey will be dedicated to improving myself, and hopefully you as well.
