Al Horford 1986

“Usually, I try to represent my community and my culture the best that I can, but I go about every day just trying to represent my family. I’m just trying to make a difference out in the world. I don’t even look at, necessarily, just the Latin community, I’m looking at everything in general.”

*How do you represent your community?

How do you represent your culture?

How do you represent your family?

Rafael Nadal 1986

Nadal trains 6 days a week for 6 ½ hours every day – 4 on court and the rest in the gym or the pool.

Allen Ginsberg 1926

A focus on spirituality and religion has been a unique aspect of the work of Allen Ginsberg, from the Judaism of his heritage to the Hinduism (Hare Krishna) discovered in his classic sojourn in India, to the Zen, and subsequently Tibetan, Buddhism and Meditation practice that he later became devoted to.

*Which religion is part of your heritage?

Which religion have you discovered?

Which religion have you become devoted to?

Anderson Cooper 1967

“I don’t believe in inheriting money. I think it’s an initiative sucker. I think it’s a curse.”

*I love this attitude by Anderson Cooper, but it must be easier said than done. Avoid “initiative suckers” in your life and make your own money.

Who is an ‘initiative sucker’ that you have?

If you were to inherit a fortune, what would you do with your life?

Tony Curtis 1925 – watch The Defiant Ones

“At first they said I was too good-looking for the part; I didn’t look enough like the a**hole “n*gger-hater” I was supposed to play. So I wore a false nose and made myself look uglier.”

*Watch Tony Curtis win an Oscar in The Defiant Ones.

Josephine Baker 1906 – spaghetti Bolognese

It was a little-known fact that she loved to cook. She also had a restaurant in NYC that her son now owns and operates. “Chez Josephine“. Try her exact recipe for Spaghetti Bolognese

BONUS: Jefferson Davis 1808 – Jefferson Davis Pie

Jefferson Finis Davis, the first and only President of the Confederate States of America

*Enjoy Josephine Baker’s spaghetti Bolognese and this Jefferson Davis Pie while watching the racial-prejudice themed film – The Defiant Ones.

SNUB – Imogen Poots 1989

Travis Jones

I was born in Northwestern Pennsylvania and lived in a trailer park. I was raised by very conservative and religious (Wesleyan Methodist) parents. By some miracle I graduated college and moved to Florida. I have been a public school teacher since 1995. I have 7 years until I can retire. I was married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. I remarried in 2017 to Kate - 21 years my junior. Some of my life experiences as a 46-year-old, white American male, will come through in my writing, but the majority of this daily journey will be dedicated to improving myself, and hopefully you as well.
