TALK ABOUT PRACTICE DAY

MIND

Emily Ratajkowski 1991

“I have great childhood memories cow-tipping, going off and getting lost in the bog for hours, and coming home covered in dirt.”

*What are some of your childhood memories?

BODY

Allen Iverson 1975

Iverson could have added muscle to his 165-pound frame during his NBA career but much like practice, he was not a fan of lifting weights.

“That s— was too heavy,” Iverson said, admitting he never lifted during his career.

*Do not lift weights today. That shit’s too heavy. Do not practice anything either. Play a game of pickup basketball – but do NOT practice!

SOUL

Prince 1958

“We all have our problems, some are big, some are small. Soon all of our problems, y’all, will be taken by the cross.” – “The Cross”

*Prince was a conservative Christian with deep messages in a lot of his music.

Reflect on your problems in 2 categories –

Big

Small

BONUS: Bear Grylls 1974

“Christianity is not about religion. It’s about faith, about being held, about being forgiven. It’s about finding joy and finding home.”

MONEY

L.A. Reid 1956

“That head-down thing, it’s going to limit your career. See, while your head is down, opportunities are passing right on by you, and you don’t even see them.”

*While putting your soul into your work, keep your head up – looking for opportunities.

ENTERTAINMENT

Liam Neeson 1952 – watch Kinsey

*Watch Liam Neeson win the AARP award as best actor in the movie Kinsey.

FOOD

Dean Martin 1917 – Pasta Fagioli

“When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
‘Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore”

*Enjoy some pasta fagioli under the stars with your true love while listening to Dean Martin. Wash it down with too much wine.

I was born in Northwestern Pennsylvania and lived in a trailer park. I was raised by very conservative and religious (Wesleyan Methodist) parents. By some miracle I graduated college and moved to Florida. I have been a public school teacher since 1995. I have 7 years until I can retire. I was married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. I remarried in 2017 to Kate - 21 years my junior. Some of my life experiences as a 46-year-old, white American male, will come through in my writing, but the majority of this daily journey will be dedicated to improving myself, and hopefully you as well.
