For his adherents (and there were many), he was a spiritual guide, a high priest of the inner self, merging Zen Buddhism, the philosophy of Gurdjieff, and other mysticisms and metaphysics into an encompassing world view that began and ended with self-consciousness. His approach was a complete break with virtually all of the traditions of photography, including the importance of subject matter. His students were on a serious journey of awareness, using photography as a tool for deepening their own personal understanding. His pictures took them to places they had never been before, and opened their eyes to new ways of thinking about image making and themselves.

*Get outside and take pictures today and let those pictures be a journey of awareness. Share them with friends and loved ones and actually print the pictures out.

Clark and the prosecution claimed that their intent with the exercise video was to show Simpson’s physical prowess, displaying that he allegedly had the ability to commit the crimes in question. However, in the criminal trial, Simpson was acquitted. But, according to The New York Times, he was found guilty in the resulting 1997 civil suit and ordered to pay “$25 million in punitive damages to the families.”

‘What I’m doing here, by turning over 100 percent of the profits, is probably the most genuine thing I can do. Honestly I feel terrible about what happened. You asked if I had shame: back then, yes. Now, no. I’m not going to live my life in shame. I think that’s a toxic emotion.

*Don’t have shame today. Whatever you have done, is in the past. Only a fool would trip over something that he’s already passed. Watch the end of The Wolf of Wall Street for motivation.

Elias Howe 1819

Few inventions have changed everyday life as radically as the sewing machine. Altering an important element of daily life, the sewing machine was an innovation on a personal yet universal level. The creation process of the sewing machine was the work of several men over a number of years, however, Elias Howe, Jr. is ultimately considered the inventor of the sewing machine. Four patents were actually issued prior to Howe’s, but none of those inventors made any money. Elias Howe’s innovation, in addition to the mechanical improvements to his machine, was in putting together all of the work of his predecessors, and producing a sewing machine used around the globe. Through this he was able to gain fame and fortune as one of the great innovators of his era.

*How can you alter an important element of daily life and make money off of it? Alarm? Shower? Shave? Brushing your teeth? Breakfast? Commuting? Lunch? Working out? Dinner? Going to bed?

Tom Hanks 1956 – watch Forrest Gump

Do What You Love, No Matter What text: Forrest loved mowing the lawn so much that he did it even when he was a “gazillionaire.” From the outside, that must have looked foolish, but he didn’t care: He was always true to himself. Be honest with yourself about what makes you happy.

John D. Rockefeller 1839

Image result for john d rockefeller

Rockefeller’s Daily Schedule: Rising at 6AM, he read the newspaper for an hour, then strolled through house and garden from 7 to 8, giving a dime to each new employee and a nickel to each veteran. He then breakfasted at 8, followed at 8:45 by a game of numerica (a puzzle game), which gave him time to digest his food properly (he was strict about relaxing after eating to let his food digest – that’s a life hack for sure!). From 9:15 to 10:15 he worked on his correspondence, mostly devoted to his philanthropy and investments. (As many as 2,000 letters arrived daily at his home, most of them solicitations for money.) From 10:15 to 12 he golfed, from 12:15 to 1PM he bathed and then rested. Then came lunch and another round of numerica from 1 to 2:30. From 2:30 to 3 he reclined on the sofa and had mail read to him; from 3:15 to 5:15 he motored, from 5:30 to 6:30 he again rested, 7 to 9 was given over to a formal dinner, followed by more rounds of numerica. From 9 to 10 he listened to music and chatted with guests, then slept from 10:30 PM to 6 AM. He refused to deviate from this routine by one bit, even when weather was a challenge.

*This is your plan for today – from 6am to 10:30 tonight.

Jack Lambert 1952 – have a lust for contact

Toothless. Mustached. Menacing. Before being drafted by the Steelers in 1974, the scouting report on Lambert, a marginal talent from Kent State, said that while he didn’t have ideal size for a linebacker, he had a “lust for contact.”

*Play football today and have a lust for contact. Actually have this attitude for anything that you do today. Go Steelers!

Dr. John Pemberton 1831 – yes, Dr. P invented Coca-Cola

Image result for dr john pemberton

Pemberton turned to cocaine as a substitute for morphine.
The Georgia man began to experiment with opium-free medicine, as he knew his morphine addiction was dangerous. When another doctor claimed he could cure opium habits with coca (cocaine), Pemberton devised his own concoction, which used coca leaves and kola nuts and was called French Wine Coca. A local prohibition law was enacted in 1886, so Pemberton was forced to remove the alcoholic element and his formula thus became Coca-Cola

Don’t Resist Change

Pemberton’s brain tonic was supposedly a cure for horrible-sounding ailments like, “Neuralgia,” “Hysteria…” and “Melancholia.” But there’s no way that Coca-Cola would be the huge corporation it is today if they hadn’t started marketing their beverage as a soft drink.

*Don’t resist change. As you are starting your business, don’t be afraid to change things up.

Kevin Bacon 1958 – watch Taking Chance

Image result for kevin bacon gif

Almost two decades ago, a parlor game called “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” became an unlikely grass-roots phenomenon among movie buffs and foretold today’s social web of online connections.
Maybe the only one who was not amused by the game was Kevin Bacon himself.
“I was horrified by it. I thought it was a giant joke at my expense,” said the prolific actor Saturday during a talk at the South by Southwest Interactive festival here. “I appreciate it now. But I was very resistant to it (at first).”

*So many to choose from, but go with Taking Chance as your Kevin Bacon fix.

Paige once asked, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?”

*How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? As I type this I am 46 but don’t feel a day over 45. Regardless, I am hoping to change my life through 365DOLF, and hopefully you are too.

Lisa Leslie 1972 – squats while brushing your teeth

“My favorite workout involves an electric toothbrush and whole lot of squats. If you get an electric toothbrush it usually runs for two minutes [and] you do four quadrants of your mouth. While at the same time, you can do your squats. So I do my squats probably for a minute, which gets me about 50 squats in a minute and then I do leg lifts and raises for the other minute. That pretty much gets my teeth cleaned and my butt toned.”

*Tone your butt while brushing your teeth. This is a suggestion that you should do today and carry on doing it every day.

For most people, it is best to keep to the faith of their birth, he said, because they have a deeper understanding of it. A few people may be convinced that another religion suits them better and may be moved to practice it seriously, but for most, “it’s very important to keep one’s own tradition.”

*You may be doing this already. If you’ve left the church that you grew up with, revisit it today for clarity as to why. I will have to revisit the Wesleyan Methodist church to remind myself why I’m never going back to it.

Another major reason that Rocky can rise as high as he does in the first movie is that he finally meets a trainer with whom he works well: Mickey (Burgess Meredith). In any situation, your potential for success vastly increases if find someone who can teach you in a way you understand – give you the advice you need in a way that sticks with you. Calvin Coolidge 1872

Coolidge enjoyed a widespread popularity and could easily have won re-election in 1928. Instead, he chose not to run again.  Personal Factors played a role in his decision, as well as the realization that his work was done and that the public was ready for a new man with a new approach. He remarked to a Cabinet member, “I know how to save money. All my training has been in that direction. The country is in a sound financial condition. Perhaps the time has come when we ought to spend money. I do not feel that I am qualified to do that.” Moreover, as he wisely observed, “It is a pretty good idea to get out when they still want you.”

Then, one day, “two letters came in the mail. One was asking me to come back to my job. The other was inviting me on to Johnny Carson.” The Tonight Show appearance, in November 1971, helped propel “Ain’t No Sunshine” into the Top 10, and the follow-up, “Grandma’s Hands,” reached Number 42.

In his early efforts, at a time before sit-ins, before Freedom Riders, before Rosa Parks, before Martin Luther King, Jr., in a place of abandoned repression, he had only his wife, Myrlie, and a handful of others wholly behind him. King had his Montgomery congregation and his father’s in Atlanta, a much larger web of support, and later, of course, a national forum. Implicit in these circumstances are questions of greatness that transcend race but are even more unimaginable because Medgar was black, in Mississippi, in the first half of the twentieth century, and basically alone. Beckwith did not just kill a man whose hard life had instilled a quiet fanaticism; he killed a man almost fated for martyrdom, a man whose ability to rise every morning and take on the entrenched and cruelly arrogant mores as he did was little short of incredible.

Alain Finkielkraut 1949

French thinker Finkielkraut draws on the universal values of the French Enlightenment to argue that every citizen in a democratic society has an obligation to become fluent in the dominant language and culture.

*If you’re not yet, become fluent in your country’s dominant language and culture. Assimilation. If you’ve already mastered the home language and culture, start learning another country’s today.

Michael Phelps 1985

“That’s the reason why suicide rates are going up — people are afraid to talk and open up,” said Phelps.

Today, by sharing his experience he has the chance to reach people and save lives — “and that’s way more powerful,” he said.

“Those moments and those feelings and those emotions for me are light years better than winning the Olympic gold medal,” said Phelps.

“I am extremely thankful that I did not take my life.”

In terms of his diet, it has been reported that Phelps eats 12,000 calories a day, around 4,000 calories per meal. For breakfast, Phelps eats three fried-egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions, and mayonnaise. Then he drinks two cups of coffee and then consumes a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes. For lunch, Phelps eats a pound of pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches on white bread with mayo. He then drinks about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks. For dinner, Phelps eats another pound of pasta and a full pizza followed by another 1,000 calories of energy drinks.

*Try to eat 12,000 calories and then try to burn them all off by swimming. *Don’t swim on a full stomach.

Lena Horne 1917

If she could have swallowed her pride, Lena Horne could have had an easy life. Born into a middle-class African-American family in New York in 1917, she was beautiful, talented and ambitious. Until the very end, she never once softened her firm stance against racism or missed an opportunity to advance the cause she believed in.

*Don’t swallow your pride. Stand up for what is right. Listen to some Lena Horne to soothe your soul.

Mike Tyson 1966

A lot of people assume that Muhammad Ali was my favorite boxer. But I have to say it was Roberto Duran. I always looked at Ali as being handsome and articulate. And I was short and ugly and I had a speech impediment. When I saw Duran fight, he was just a street guy. He’d say stuff to his opponents like, “Suck my fucking dick, you motherfucker. Next time you’re going to the fucking morgue.” After he beat Sugar Ray Leonard in that first fight, he went over to where Wilfred Benitez was sitting and he said, “Fuck you. You don’t have the heart or the balls to fight me.”

It Starts With Your Mindset

You may not have the skill at the moment to succeed with your goals, but as long as you have the right mindset, eventually you will develop the level of skill needed to achieve that success.

*Your mindset should be – I am going to develop the level of skill needed to achieve success at what I am most passionate about.

Vincent D’Onofrio 1959 – watch Full Metal Jacket

In addition to the weight gain, D’Onofrio also shaved his head for the role, and was surprised by how much it affected him. ”It changed my life,” D’Onofrio told The New York Times in 1987. ”Women didn’t look at me; most of the time I was looking at their backs as they were running away. People used to say things to me twice, because they thought I was stupid.” To this day, it’s the most weight any actor has ever gained for a movie role.

*This is my favorite movie of all time – enjoy.

Where are you traveling next?

I may be going to Italy in a week. I’ve been there before, but I may be going again to hang out.

There’s a work trip and then there’s a chill-out trip. If it’s a chill-out trip, I’m going to Hawaii. I’ll go to the Grand Wailea, chill and restore the battery.

Wherever I go, it must have great food. Cuisine is the first thing I ask about when I get off the plane. Where do we eat?

*Make David Alan Grier’s prosciutto sandwich and enjoy it while watching him in old episodes of In Living Color.
