Look to the * for today’s advice.

Elizabeth I of England 1533

When she was only two and a half years old her mother was beheaded and Elizabeth spent the rest of her childhood in the shadow of her father’s court. No one imagined then that she would grow up to become one of the most successful and famous rulers of all time.

*Watch the movie Elizabeth and realize that you can overcome any obstacles from your past.

Kevin Love 1988 – yoga

“I lost some weight and I became a lot more limber,” Love says. But yoga’s benefits are not just physical. Love adds, “It lets me assess not only how my body feels, but where my mind is. It helps me escape all the stresses and pressures of daily life.”

Another day for yoga to improve your body and escape the stresses and pressures of today.

In the short time I’ve been meeting with the therapist, I’ve seen the power of saying things out loud in a setting like that. And it’s not some magical process. It’s terrifying and awkward and hard, at least in my experience so far. I know you don’t just get rid of problems by talking about them, but I’ve learned that over time maybe you can better understand them and make them more manageable. Look, I’m not saying, Everyone go see a therapist. The biggest lesson for me since November wasn’t about a therapist — it was about confronting the fact that I needed help.

*If you need help, confront that fact today and seek it out. But for now – yoga.

Gloria Gaynor 1947

Gaynor sees this song as just a simple song about survival, regardless of what you have to overcome. She said: “I love the empowering effect, I love the encouraging effect. It’s a timeless lyric that addresses a timeless concern.”

*Listen to Gloria Gaynor’s 1979 Grammy winning song I Will Survive. You will survive today. Regardless of what you have to overcome, remember that you will survive.

Eazy E 1964

Frost says he believes that there was some sort of conspiracy and that Eazy-E contracted AIDS after someone purposely gave him acupuncture needles tainted with the virus.

“How else can somebody die that fast from AIDS? Have you even heard of somebody dying in two weeks of AIDS, bro?”

Before the group came together in the movie, Eazy-E was a drug dealer, and Dr. Dre convinced him that “if he can sling dope, he can sling records.” E certainly proved to be quite a natural as a music entertainer.

*You know what you are good at – maybe it’s dealing drugs? Think about what you do well beyond the world of business and how you could turn it into your way of life.

Evan Rachel Wood 1987 – watch Mildred Pierce (2011)

She is not a fan of her middle name–yes, seriously. In fact, she uses it simply so casting directors don’t confuse her gender.

Vaginas were so popular in the thirties.
Not that they’ve ever been unpopular, but in Mildred Pierce, vaginas took center stage! Whether they were being penetrated by Guy Pearce’s toes and tongue, or — through the anticipation brought on by Evan Rachel Wood’s press tour — covered by a much-heralded merkin, each installment of Mildred Pierce had us on the edge of our seats, wondering what would happen to a vagina next. Were Mildred’s pies a vagina metaphor, too?

Buddy Holly 1936 – Buddy Holly Casserole

Don McLean’s 1971 classic is all about that fateful plane crash. In the third verse, he sings, “I can’t remember if I cried, when I read about his widowed bride.”

The bride was María Elena Holly (née Santiago), who Buddy wed just two weeks after meeting her at a music publisher in New York, where she worked. She was pregnant when he died, but suffered a miscarriage a few days later. Santiago-Holly still controls much of the continuing business related to Holly’s music, but doesn’t own the songs—they’re held by Paul McCartney.

*Make this Buddy Holly Casserole while listening to… Buddy Holly. Enjoy it with your very own Peggy Sue – or Maria Elena.

SNUB – Shannon Elizabeth (a star in the movie American Pie)
