Colin Firth 1960

Firth and Feilden’s hypothesis was that different political leanings would be associated with structural differences in the brain. Conservative MP Alan Duncan and Labour’s Stephen Pound participated in the MRI study for the programme, and the published study represents data from 90 young adults who identified as being on either end of the political spectrum. The study authors reported that while conservatism was associated with a larger right amygdala (a structure linked to emotional processing), being on the left was associated with a larger anterior cingulate (a region involved in error detection, attention, and motivation).

Roger Maris 1934 – chop wood

Roger Maris basically had two great seasons, a couple of good ones and a remaining career that was basically average.  He may not have had the career numbers the Hall covets, but what he did in 1961 was Hall of Fame worthy.  This could very well remain the biggest Hall of Fame debate this side of Rose and Shoeless Joe.

Maris blasted away without the upper-body bulk Bonds and McGwire have from years in the gym, let alone the Androstenedione that helped McGwire artificially recover from workouts in 1998. The bulge you saw in Maris’ arms came from chopping wood back home in Fargo, N.D.

*It might be difficult to find a wood pile to chop, but it is fun and it does ease stress. If not, ask your trainer for a move to simulate chopping wood or go to the batting cages and swing away.

Marie Laveau 1801

She nurtured the sick through multiple epidemics, stood on the gallows ministering to the condemned and was accused of causing the deaths, through voodoo, of both a lieutenant governor and a governor. Many condemned her as a witch while others praised her as a saint.

Vodou began when African slaves brought their native traditions with them as they were forcefully transported to the new world. However, they were generally forbidden from practicing their religion. To get around these restrictions, the slaves started to equate their gods with Catholic saints. They also performed their rituals using the items and imagery of the Catholic Church.

If a Vodou practitioner considers himself Christian, he generally professes to be a Catholic Christian. Many Vodou practitioners also consider themselves Catholics. Some see the saints and spirits to be one and the same. Others still hold that the Catholic accouterments are primarily for appearance.

Vodou is a monotheistic religion. Followers of Vodou — known as Vodouisants — believe in a single, supreme godhead that can be equated with the Catholic God. This deity is known as Bondye, “the good god”.

*Pray to Bondye – “the good god” today.

Palmer — whose connection to the drink goes back to the late 1960’s when he was reportedly overheard ordering the drink in a restaurant — had not capitalized on it. Knowing this, the three decided it would make sense to draw up a business plan — on a napkin of course — and present it to Palmer’s agents at IMG.

Joe Perry 1950 – listen to Aerosmith

As co-founding member, principal songwriter, electrifying lead guitarist and co-producer of Aerosmith–America’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band–JOE PERRY has achieved permanent iconic stature in the pantheon of rock.

The guitar became his passion, an object of lust, an outlet for his restlessness and his rebellious soul. That passion quickly blossomed into an obsession, and he got a band together. One night after a performance he met a brash young musician named Steven Tyler; before long, Aerosmith was born. What happened over the next forty-five years has become the stuff of legend: the knockdown, drag-out, band-splintering fights; the drugs, the booze, the rehab; the packed arenas and timeless hits; the reconciliations and the comebacks.

*Listen to Aerosmith. You know most of their songs.

Randy Johnson 1963 – Big Unit Hot Dog

His 4,875 strikeouts rank No. 2 all-time behind Ryan’s 5,714, and his 10.61 strikeouts per nine innings rank first all-time. Johnson owns six of the 33 300-strikeout seasons in the history of the game. Five of the top 11 single-season strikeout seasons belong to the pitcher known as the Big Unit.

A signature menu item was the 22-inch Big Unit hot dog, named for Arizona Diamondbacks Hall of Famer Randy Johnson.

*Enjoy this Big Unit hot dog in honor of one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. Wash it down with an Arnold Palmer in honor of one of the most dominant golfers ever.
