Look to the * for today’s advice.

Lyndon B. Johnson 1908

Finally, and somewhat surreptitiously he came to his surprise withdrawal from the presidential race. Asserting that the country’s “ultimate strength” lies in “the unity of our people,” he acknowledged that “there is division in the American house now. There is divisiveness among us all tonight. And holding the trust that is mine, as President of all the people, I cannot disregard the peril to the progress of the American people and the hope and prospect of peace for all people…. With America’s sons in the fields faraway, with America’s future under challenge right here at home … I do not believe that I should devote an hour or a day of my time to any personal partisan causes…. Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President.”

*How many politicians would walk away because of division on their watch? Today is the day for you to step aside if you don’t think you are doing a good job. Let someone else do your job as you find something more suited for you.

Live by the Rule of 4

Four hours of sleep and four baths a day are the trick to being of sound mind and body, according to a recap of 24-hours with the designer.

*Sleep for 4 hours and take 4 baths today.

Cesar Millan 1969

Just like the dogs on the show, my life tends to become filled with anxiety when I am scurrying around working feverishly in my own strength, or barking loudly to get my own way, rather than following my Leader. If I were to stop, attain a “calm and surrendered state” through prayer, and wait patiently for God to show me the next step, things would go much more smoothly.

*Stop. Attain a calm and surrendered state through prayer. Wait for God to show you the next step. Afterwards, play with your dog – it’s good for both of your souls.

Charles Rolls 1877

To own a Rolls-Royce is universally recognized as “the ultimate expression that you have made it.”

*Write down what you will buy one day and at that point, you will say – “I’ve made it.” Now go after it.

Education is Important

“Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah, science!” – Jesse Pinkman

If Jesse Pinkman taught you nothing else, he taught you that education is important. As someone who didn’t do well in school, something he remembered from his high school Chemistry class (with a little bit of help) helped him create and maintain a business that he never imagined he could be a part of.

*Start at the beginning and binge watch Breaking Bad

Paul Reubens 1952 – Reuben sandwich

”Wow,” says Pee-wee in genuine awe, “I’m the luckiest boy in the world!”

He might still be, if Reubens hadn’t walked into that adult movie theater on the evening of Friday, July 26. Nothing brings a star crashing to earth like the words sex scandal, and this particular scandal — a kid-show host charged with exposing himself in a porno theater

The main things to remember for a great Reuben are to keep the filling under control and in balance, so when you bite into it you get a harmonious and succulent mouthful; and to grill the sandwich slowly and under some pressure, so the bread gets toasty brown and buttery crisp, the meat gets warmed through, and the cheese is just melted enough to be oozy.

*Enjoy this Reuben (go easy on that Russian dressing) sandwich while watching Paul Reubens as Pee Wee Herman. Wash it down with a Pee Wee Herman cocktail.

I was born in Northwestern Pennsylvania and lived in a trailer park. I was raised by very conservative and religious (Wesleyan Methodist) parents. By some miracle I graduated college and moved to Florida. I have been a public school teacher since 1995. I have 7 years until I can retire. I was married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. I remarried in 2017 to Kate - 21 years my junior. Some of my life experiences as a 46-year-old, white American male, will come through in my writing, but the majority of this daily journey will be dedicated to improving myself, and hopefully you as well.
