Look for the * for today’s advice.
Prudence Crandall 1803
Less determined or more timid people in Crandall’s shoes might have folded. After all, she had put all of her hopes as well as her savings into the school. Why risk failure and opprobrium over a single student when, with a simple dismissal, all would be well again?
The fools of Canterbury underestimated Prudence Crandall. Not only did she not cave in; she came up with a revolutionary idea. “Under the circumstances,” she declared, “I made up my mind that, if it were possible, I would teach colored girls exclusively.”
*Let fools underestimate you today. Don’t be timid, be determined and don’t cave in when it comes to your revolutionary idea.
Jennie Finch 1980 – play tag
I think it’s about balance. Try to move whenever possible. I love being outside with my boys, playing tag or trying to keep up with them. I really prefer to start my day getting my workout in early. I try to not be too hard on myself regarding my diet. I’ve always been a workout-to-eat kind of a girl. I like to eat to say the least. I try to put as much color in my diet as possible and staying hydrated is important! It’s great for skin, and I also use lots of sunblock!
*Get some friends together and play tag. Stay hydrated and if you’re playing tag in the sun, use lots of sunblock.
John Humphrey Noyes 1811
Noyes appears to have picked up the ideals of Perfectionism from Wesleyan theologians of the day. Noyes, however, believed that perfection on earth meant sharing everything. Having been chased from a location or two for his radical ideas, Noyes and his followers eventually settled in Oneida, where they could practice “complex marriage” in peace. All adult members of the community were expected to love each other fully. While avoiding incestuous unions, all adults were married to all others. By practicing male continence, they kept the birth rate down, and, to the surprise of many visitors, seemed the most civil and sophisticated people around.
Sexual continence involves a total awareness and control during lovemaking. This implies that the couple will experience complete union with the possibility of reaching many orgasms. This kind of love fusion does not end with ejaculation for men nor an explosive discharge of sexual fluids for women.
*Attempt sexual continence today to completely connect with your partner on a spiritual level.
Dave Ramsey 1960
- Baby Step 1: $1,000 cash in a beginner emergency fund
- Baby Step 2: Use the debt snowball to pay off all your debt but the house
Here’s How the Debt Snowball Method Works
The debt snowball method is a debt reduction strategy where you pay off debts in order of smallest to largest, gaining momentum as each balance is paid off. When the smallest debt is paid in full, you roll the money you were paying on that debt into the next smallest balance.
It looks something like this:
Step 1: List your debts from smallest to largest.
Step 2: Make minimum payments on all your debts except the smallest.
Step 3: Pay as much as possible on your smallest debt.
Step 4: Repeat until each debt is paid in full.
*Make sure you have $1000 in the bank and start the Debt Snowball today.
Charlie Sheen 1965 – watch Two and a Half Men
What’s it like to ride shotgun with Sheen during ‘Two and a Half Men’? For starters, he suggests you find prostitutes after your divorce.
*A lot of good options for Charlie Sheen, but watch as many episodes of him in Two and a Half Men – this is when he was the most Charlie Sheenest. Winning!
Shaun White 1986 – Flying Tomatoes
The Make-A-Wish Foundation factored into a defining moment at the 2014 Olympics, in which Shaun defied protocol by jumping over a barricade to high-five and hug two kids with cancer who’d traveled the 6,000 miles to Sochi to see their idol. That meeting was chronicled in detail in the Washington Post, with the story’s author noting that Shaun achieved “the Olympic moment of his life on the day he failed to win a medal.” Despite placing fourth in the halfpipe, Shaun found the 2014 Olympics revelatory in more ways than one. “You’d think losing would be the end of things, but it was just the beginning,” he says. “Instead of letting it destroy me, I sat back and asked myself, ‘What do I really want to do now?’ And that’s when everything started happening with Air + Style.”
*Enjoy this Flying Tomatoes recipe in honor of “The Flying Tomato” Sean White. He set the standard for getting paid to do what you love.
Wash it down with Tiger’s Blood.
Charlie Sheen’s spicy – and perplexing – comments about his physical strength and his mental abilities have caused many to sit up and take notice. Especially bartenders. TY KU has dreamed up a cocktail, called the TY-ger Blood, inspired by one of Sheen’s many quotable remarks that he’s “different.”
“I have a different constitution,” the actor has said. “I have a different brain; I have a different heart; I got tiger blood, man.”
The drink, which calls for sake and spicy tomato juice, is a play on the Bloody Mary, traditionally made with vodka.
