Look to the * for today’s advice.
MAKE TIME FOR YOUR PARENTS DAY
Benjamin Wadsworth 1670
Parents & Children should love mutually, love one another; if they don’t, they’re without natural affections, which is mention’d among the worst crimes of Heathens and hypocrites. If Children duly consider, they’ll find they have abundant case to love their Parents, they are very base & vile if they neglect it. Unless they love their Parents, they can’t do other duties which they owe to them, as they should.
*Make time for your parents today. If possible, go see them and tell them how much they mean to you. I lost my dad on 5/21/18 and I miss him every day.
Bernadette Peters 1948
So, wellness is mind first: meditating. Then body: exercising and being aware of what you’re eating. And a dog is good to have around.
HOW TO MEDITATE: SIMPLE MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS
This meditation exercise is an excellent introduction to meditation techniques.
- Sit or lie comfortably. You may even want to invest in a meditation chairor cushion.
- Close your eyes. We recommend using one of our Cooling Eye Masksor Restorative Eye Pillows if lying down.
- Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally.
- Focus your attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation. Notice the movement of your body as you breathe. Observe your chest, shoulders, rib cage, and belly. Simply focus your attention on your breath without controlling its pace or intensity. If your mind wanders, return your focus back to your breath.
*Meditate. Exercise. Eat well. Play with your dog. Don’t have a dog?…you know what to do.
Dean Smith 1931
Act with honor and integrity.
“Good people are happy when something good happens to someone else.”
Focusing on the process instead of the final result, which is often outside of one’s control, is good advice for all areas of life.
Carolina, in consultation with the Smith family and with their full support, created The Dean E. Smith Opening Doors Fund to honor the legacy of the legendary coach, who championed the cause of access to higher education and opportunity for all. This endowment fund will make college a reality for outstanding undergraduates from lower-income families and enable professionals in education and social work — two fields close to Coach Smith’s heart — to pursue advanced degrees. Students supported by the fund will exemplify Coach Smith’s qualities of leadership, service and excellence. Their presence on campus will immortalize the impact of his life for generations to come.
*Focus on the process of acting with honor and integrity today. Be genuinely happy for someone else’s success. Think of donating to the Dean E. Smith Opening Doors Fund.
Mario Andretti 1940
His designation as a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, are also a testament to his post-racing life as an eclectic entrepreneur and investor—one who earns much more today than he ever did behind the wheel.
*The career you are in right now is not your last act. It’s never too early to start thinking about the next act of your life. Hopefully you can parlay the skills of your current job into a successful business.
Jason Aldean 1977
As with Sandy Hook and Pulse before, and now Parkland, the Route 91 shooting has ignited calls for some to speak out about the gun lobby and tighter gun control. This is a tricky proposition with country music, which has had ties to the NRA, a portion of its fan base that leans conservative, and a cultural affiliation with firearms. Aldean, being a gun owner and a father, could potentially bring some nuance to the conversation, but he doesn’t see any upside to doing that. Instead, he’d rather see our elected leaders do their jobs.
*Jason Aldean was on stage in Las Vegas when the bullets started flying. As I type this, it is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Listen to Jason Aldean today and wonder why he won’t do more than rely on our elected leaders to do their job.
Cindy Wilson 1957 – grilled rock lobster tails
We were at a party
His earlobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster
We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn’t a rock
It was a rock lobster
*Listen to the song “Rock Lobster” while eating grilled rock lobster tails, while sitting in your love shack.
